Benedict Cumberbatch SherlockDoctor Who

THE GUARDIAN:  Doctor Who and Sherlock battle for National Television awards

LONDON – Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch will be competing for National Television awards best actor against rival Matt Smith of Doctor Who. Both shows are also up for best drama.  The pair are in the running along with Merlin’s Colin Morgan and Daniel Mays, who starred in ITV1’s Mrs Biggs.

BUSINESS INSIDER: The French want Google to pay to deliver ads

Google faced renewed political pressure in Europe this week when France’s technology minister backed suggestions that it should make a contribution to the cost of operating and upgrading telecoms networks.  Fleur Pellerin said there was a “need to ask serious questions about how web companies can put some money into networks”.

THE NEW YORK TIMES: Goodby, Silverstein & Partners opens New York Office

USAGoodby, Silverstein & Partners, a leading agency with headquarters in San Francisco, is opening an office in New York. The office, temporarily located at 7 World Trade Center, gives Goodby, Silverstein, which was founded in 1983, a New York presence for the first time.  Two senior executives have relocated to lead the New York office, which will employ 15 to 25 people. They are Christian Haas, 39, who becomes partner and executive creative director, and Nancy Reyes, 37, who becomes associate partner and managing director.

MOBILE MARKETER: Top mobile security threats for 2013

Mobile’s growing popularity with consumers and marketers is matched by an increase in the number of cyber attacks on smartphones. This means that security is likely to take on greater importance in 2013 compared to last year.  Malware targeting mobile users is already a big concern for the Android platform and the problem is likely to get worse before it gets better. Other areas of concern include worms, drive-by downloads, botnets and potential infrastructure attacks.
