Chinese supermodel Liu Wen, who, in five years, has risen from an unknown teenager to become the fifth highest-earning model in the world thanks to campaigns with Calvin Klein and Hugo Boss, is one of the surprises of Forbes top-10 of the world’s highest-earning supermodels. Liu Wen is number 5 on the Forbes 2013 list. The other surprise entry on the list is Joan Smalls, the Puerto Rican model who became the first Latina ambassador for Estee Lauder in 2010, appears at No 8.

CAMPAIGN: Pot Noodle Facebook post banned for being ‘crass and degrading’ to women

Unilever-owned snack Pot Noodle has had a post on its Facebook page banned for being “crass and degrading” towards women.  The Advertising Standards Authority received two types of complaints about three Piri Piri Pot Noodles ads that appeared on the Pot Noodle Facebook page. It upheld one of the complaints for one of the ads, but did not uphold the other concerns.  The three ads, created by Mother London, took the form of one Facebook post, one video, and one online game, and one invited viewers to “peel the top off a hottie”.

AD WEEK: Hulu nabs new original series from Lionsgate.  Wilfred creators sell 10 half-hours to streaming service

Hulu has ordered 10 episodes of a new scripted supernatural comedy called Deadbeat from Lionsgate, with all episodes directed and exec produced by TV producing vet Troy Miller (credits include Netflix’s reboot of Arrested Development, Brand X With Russell Brand and others). Hulu’s current slate of originals includes The Awesomes, Quickdraw and the upcoming The Wrong Mans; the buy from Lionsgate seems to indicate enough initial success with The Awesomes to merit further investment.\

THE TELEGRAPH (UK): UK competition watchdog to probe Google Waze acquisition

LONDON – The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is looking into Google’s acquisition of Israeli mapping app maker Waze, to determine whether it affects competition in the UK. Google bought Waze, a traffic map app with 47 million users, for $1 billion (£640m) in June 2013. Waze uses satellite signals from members’ smartphones to generate maps and traffic data, which it then shares with other users, offering real-time traffic information.

CAMPAIGN ASIA: Y&R Vietnam and VML Qais pick up digital duties for Remy

Following a month-long review, French cognac company Remy Martin has chosen Y&R Vietnam and VML Qais for its digital duties. According to Y&R executives, the agencies will be responsible for the company’s major brand website as well as activation of Remy Martin’s sponsorship of the Cannes Film Festival.

AD NEWS: Twitter hires Ikon’s social media director, opens Sydney office

AUSTRALIA – Ikon’s social media director Oliver Wilton has left to join Twitter, which last week opened its Sydney office. Wilton had been at the agency for two and a half years. First as social media manager and then as director. Twitter is now staffing up. As well as Melbourne representation, the firm has six people operating out of the Sydney office and seeks more as it touts its products to agencies and brands.
